Two new communal primary schools will be built on the same site near rue Navez in Schaarbeek. One will function in Dutch and one in French. It is still a far cry from a genuine bilingual school, but the two schools intend to work together and are encouraged to do so by the communal authorities. This is noteworthy in the local context, as Schaarbeek has not had a real Dutch-medium communal school for over thirty years, and its mayor Bernard Clerfayt is from the Francophone party FDF.
