In a interview with Le Soir (5/02/04), Guy Vanhengel, finance minister in the Brussels government and also in charge of Brussels’ Dutch-language schools, advocates the creation of a bilingual teacher training school in Brussels. This school would deliver degrees that give access to teaching at primary and lower secondary levels in schools of both Communities. More importantly, it would provide an important precondition for the creation of the bilingual schools demanded by Brussels parents and politicians alike: for such schools to function smoothly, a qualified bilingual teaching and administrative staff is essential.
